Freelancer.com Joins Protest Against SOPA/PIPA
Proposed on October 26, 2011, the Stop Online Piracy Act has been widely condemned by the technology industry as having the potential to cause significant damage to the way the Internet operates.
As the largest outsourcing and crowdsourcing marketplace in the world, Freelancer.com supports the growth of small businesses, entrepreneurs, and start ups in the United States around the globe. "In considering the SOPA and PIPA bills we believe that the SOPA bill is onerous in its requirements and broad reaching in its definitions. We believe these bills will cause irretrievable damage to the technology industry and the hard won successes of
entrepreneurs across the globe, as well as stunting industry growth," said Matt Barrie.
"We propose that proponents of this ill-conceived regulation try innovation instead of legislation as a route to securing future viability of their business models." said Matt Barrie, Chief Executive of Freelancer.com, "You can't fight the Internet, you can't fight technological progress. You must innovate or die."
Starting at 12:00am Eastern Standard Time on January 18th, Freelancer.com will be joining the global protest to highlight this threat to our industry.
