Angolans, Namibians share criminal actions

Ondjiva, ANGOLA, May 26 - The criminal actions of Angolan citizens in Namibian territory are supported by nationals.,

This was denounced last Friday in Odjiva Cunene by the police commander of the Ohanguena region of northern Namibia, Commissioner Simian Shinedima Shindinge.

Speaking to Angolan journalists on the sidelines of the meeting of the regional technical committee of the Defense and Security Commission, the commissioner said that most of the crimes committed in that territory  is a result of the existing community coexistence between the two peoples.

Without specifying data, he justified that the statistics point to the same "modus operandi", due to the cultural aspects and blood ties, in which are highlighted the crimes of robbery and theft of cattle of several kinds, cars, cases of physical violence and different cases of assaults.

With regard to person trafficking, particularly of minors from Angola to work on farms in Namibia, Simian Shindinge said that it is a reality and is a quite difficult to prove since when the alleged offenders are questioned and the victims say they are on a family visit.

He emphasized that trafficking is a global action but that the history between Angolans and Namibians results even before the independence of Namibia in which Angolan citizens had Namibia as a source of work on farms and mines while the Namibians were traveling to Angola for work in Namibe and Benguela.

Data from the provincial police command in Cunene point to the reporting of five cases of people trafficking with 60 victims, of these 17 are minors.
